History on a Plate – Scotland’s Mayan Gold

By | Mar 1, 2012

Greenvale recently contacted us about some niche potatoes grown here in Scotland at Balbeggie that have been bred specifically for taste alone and not for commercial reasons.

We are going to features some of these varieties in our futureĀ  newsletters.

This month’s variety is called Mayan Gold – considered very much a luxury product. A new variety of potato thatĀ  had considerable success in Tesco during December. It has yellow flesh, creamy nutty taste and is an exceptionally good roasting potato – crisp on the outside and soft and fluffy in the middle, a really great potatoe.

Claimed by Greenvale to be the first new potatoes for 400 years this was hailed as ‘History on a plate’. Enjoy!
