Ambassador Award for Claire Macdonald from Scottish Farmers

Claire Macdonald, one of Scotland’s favourite cooks, has been awarded the prestigious Ambassador Award by the National Farmers’ Union.

This prestigious award was presented to Claire Macdonald at the National Farmers’ Union’s annual dinner.  Now in its third year the award is presented to the individual who the NFU believe has contributed the most to communicating Scottish food throughout the world.  This is the first time the award a non-journalist has received the award. Clare’s focus is food rather than the farming sector. 

NFU communications director Bob Carruth is quoted as saying “Lady Claire fits the remit of the award perfectly. A long standing supporter of Scottish food, Claire works tirelessly promoting Scottish produce through her associations with the Scottish Farmers’ Markets, Scottish Food Fortnight, the Royal Highland Show and other initiatives.  It gives us great pleasure to reward her in this way.”

Accepting the award Lady Claire Macdonald said “It is a true honour to accept this accolade. However, it is not an award about one person. There is a fantastic team of hard working and talented individuals without whom Scotland’s ingredients would be nothing unusual. My respect for the farmers, crofters and fishermen continues to grow and these people are all too often the invisible food heroes of Scotland. These are the people who produce the goods that continue to truly inspire Scotland’s cooks and chefs. It is to them that I offer my immense gratitude”.

In November 2010 Highlands & Islands Tourism named Claire Macdonald their Tourism Ambassador of the Year 2010.

Kinloch Lodge, run by Claire and her team including renowned chef Marcello Tully, is internationally recoginsied as one of Scotland’s top hotels and was cited as one of the world’s top 25 small hotels in Conde Naste Traveller magazine.
