Boath House wins AA National Hotel of the Year
Boath House – a small privately run Scottish hotel with just eight bedrooms has scooped the prestigious AA National Hotel of the Year 2010/2011 award.
Located in Nairn in the Scottish Highlands, Boath House Hotel has become a by-word for fine dining in Scotland and holds 4 Rosettes and a Michelin star. Housed in a Georgian building which also functions as an art gallery, Boath House is set in 20 acres of grounds which include a lake, a Victorian walled garden, a lake and parkland. The house is filled with an eclectic mix of antique and contemporary furniture which complements the informal yet competent style of service.
20 years ago Wendy and Don Matheson saved the building from becoming a derelict property. Receiving the award Wendy is quoted as saying: “we are obviously delighted to receive this award following in the footsteps of some of the country’s finest hotels, and in particular because the nomination and the choice of this award is made by the hotel inspectors themselves. Although it is fashionable in some circles to criticise hotel inspectors we feel we would not have achieved recognition without the help and encouragement of the AA over the last 15 years. We are delighted that the hospitality industry in the Highlands is being recognised by mainstream organisations, and are immensely proud of the team who made it all possible.”

Martin Wishart is AA Chef of the Year 2010
Scottish chef Martin Wishart, the owner of Edinburgh’s first Michelin starred restaurant, has been awarded the AA Chef’s Chef of the Year 2010 award by his culinary peers.
The coveted accolade, decided by the UK’s AA Rosette-awarded chefs , was presented at that AA Hospitality awards at the London Hilton Park Lane on September 27th.
On receiving the award, Wishart said he believed his restaurant’s style of cooking and consistency was what inspired the chefs to give him the award.
Martin Wishart opened his acclaimed restaurant in Edinburgh with his wife Cecile in 1999. The restaurant holds four AA rosettes and earned its Michelin star, Edinburgh’s first, in 2001. The Martin Wishart Cook School opened in 2009 and this year Martin opened his new Restaurant at Cameron House Hotel on Loch Lomond.
Martin aims to strengthen Scotland’s reputation for good food and to encourage others with his enthusiasm for cooking.
